Diaspora

The Rwandan diaspora in Italy is made up of individuals who have migrated from Rwanda, forming vibrant communities across the country. They are actively engaged in preserving their cultural heritage, contributing to the socio-economic development of both their host country and their homeland. Through various initiatives, they support each other and foster strong ties with Rwanda, making significant contributions to community work, cultural exchange and charitable projects.

History of the Memorial

After the genocide was stopped by the RPF in 1994, Kigali authorities chose Gisozi Hill for mass graves, holding the remains of 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi. Memorial buildings were built nearby, but it remained to be decided what to house there.
